How to change the color of the blog background, text in the content, etc.

Someone asked in a comment how to change the color of fonts, etc. With the New Blogger, this is really very easy. Just get into the Dashboard of the blog, click, "Template" tab, then the "Fonts and Colors" sub-tab and you will get this page (see screenshot):

New Blogger: changing fonts and colors

First, choose what your want to change in the left side of the page, then preferably select a color from the blocks of color to the left. You should preferably select colors that matches your blog or colors from your blog. Be careful if you are choosing color for the font, not to choose a color that matches the background, or choosing a corlor for the background not to choose a color that matches the font. That will make the text invisible, making your blog unreadable. Worst, it can get your blog black listed by the search engine as that is considered black hat SEO (Search Engine Optimization). If those colors mentioned doesn't satisfy you, that are other color further to the right. You can also input the exact HTML code for the color you want. For this task, getting the very useful ColorPic will be very helpful.

If you are trying to get the HTML color code for the link on your site, it is best to make a screenshot (press "Printscreen" key, then paste it into the Paint program available in Windows in the Accessories, or use my favourite - the free Irfanview). You have to use an image of your page because most links change in color the moment you place your mouse over it, but with a screenshot, that doesn't happen.

  1. Hi.

Thank you so much for your time.
I left a comment for all my readers to see, praising you. :)

Anyway, I have tried doing what you said, but it simply doesn't change! Not the color, not the font size, etc. It is soo strange.

I'm wondering if it is because my template is not a classic one, but rather one downloaded from Blogworld.

    Hope to hear from you.

    Be well!

  2. Sorry, I meant Blogcrowds, not Blogworld.

  3. "I'm wondering if it is because my template is not a classic one, but rather one downloaded from Blogworld."

You mean Blogcrowd Forum? To tell you the truth, all my important blogs uses the Ramani's 3 column New Blogger template" and those using templates by Stavanger of Blogcrowd forum are mainly used for illustrations.

Plus I haven't got any reason yet to try to change colors of links, background, text, etc., so I have no experience to offer.

And thanks for your comment praising me. Greatly appreciated. I hope you put some clickable links there as I am "unashamedly" hardup for active links to improve my blogs PageRank.

  4. Hi Independent Frum Thinker,

Want to thank you again for your comment praising me. Hope you don't mind me being "greedy" and ask for link/s to my blog/s in the sidebar of your blog. Put it under the title "Blogger Resources" like what I have done in my blogs. May even help your readers find useful information and help that they need. Hope you don't mind me trumpeting my blogs, but I have received many comments and emails saying my blogs are easy to follow and understand.

Not compulsory tho' and if you don't do it, I wouldn't mind.

  6. Hi Independent Frum Thinker,

Forgot to add, if you have used the templates from Blogcrowd Forum and am having difficulties, perhaps you can join that forum and ask Charlemagne Stavanger. He/she is very helpful too (is Charlemagne a masculine or feminine name?)

  7. hi peter

i'm using the 3 column template but i want to differentiate the columns with colours.

    for example

left side bar: black (as background)
body text (middle): grey or white or color
right side bar : as left

    is that possible??
    thanks

  8. Hi Bidarlah,

Maybe it can be done, but I doubt it. I don't know.

  10. Hi Dan & Jen,

I don't believe you can add your own font in the Blogger account, but if you are talking about font for a graphic header, then have a look at this post: Special fonts for your blog graphic Header without removing the blog text title.

  11. At some point today all my links in my blog www.my-world-news.org have turned to the default blue with underline and no hover style different than that.
I can't modify them through the Color and Font Tab or editing the HTML directly. In the color and font Tab, the link color is the one I want, but then when I go to the website it shows the blue with underline.
Any ideas what can be wrong?
