Video uploading is now out of beta (Blogger in Draft) and available in all Blogger account

When Blogger in Draft (actually just a name for an experimental Blogger account where new features for Bloggers are introduced and tested), it just introduced 2 features - Autosave (Rat called this Auto####) and video upload direct from your Blogger post editor. They later introduced Polls and Enclosure links. As at time of publishing, Polls are still having problems and Enclosure links which allow you to turning your blog into a podcast easy.

There is some controversy over Autosave (including 2 bloggers who complained that they like to play with editing of their old post and if they don't like it, they just don't publish. Now with Autosave, their old post get overwritten without their "permission". I also complained that while doing edition of old post, before I finish with the editing, the untidy, unfinished post get published. I have to add the phrase "under editing" at the top of the post to warn readers). I have been pestering Blogger to give bloggers an option to turn off Autosave in such circumstances, but for unknown reasons, this very reasonable request was turned down.

Now Video Upload is out of beta (Blogger in Draft) and I am wondering if anyone will discover any similar problems. Now when you get into your Blogger post editor, you will see an extra video upload Blogger video upload icon in the post editor tool bar icon in addition to the other standard icons.

I will probably test it at Testing Blogger Beta (now New Blogger)

  1. My uploaded video won't play. It is represented on my blog by a box with an x in the upper left corner. When I go into edit for the post I can preview it just fine, but it won't play when it is published. The post can be found here with the video under the caption "Here's the tidal wave in action". Are you aware of a solution to this problem? Thanks.

  2. Hi syslfrog,

I had a similar problem with a video uploaded to Youtube and embedded into a post. But after a day or two, eventually the video played OK. Maybe you got to give Youtube (assuming you uploaded it here) sometime or upload it to Google Video

Update: Sorry I just noticed this is what I called "Video Direct" (Blogger got to get into the habit of giving their features names) which just came out of beta. I had similar problem, did nothing, eventually the video appeared and is playable.

  5. I tried uploading videos to my blog and it appears to autosave before the video is finished processing.

The instructions say not to hit publish or save as a draft until the video has finished processing. Then it autosaves anyway.

    It's making me crazy.

  6. Hi Tricia,

I am not a big fan of Autosave and had tried hard to persuade Blogger to make it an optional feature. I failed. Now here is one more reason I can use. I will pass your complaint along. Other than that, I am afraid I can do nothing except empathize.

  7. I agree with Tricia. I have only been blogging since August and have NEVER been able to post a video without the autosave interrupting and giving me an error. Therefore, I have no videos on my blog. I am ready to leave blogspot! Please pass my complaint on also.

  8. Hi DivineEMS,

If you do leave blogspot.com, sorry to see you go. It is a free world. However, it seem to be a sad thing over a small matter when there are easy alternatives. See

I have no real interest in "video direct", only did it for a test, and never tried it again, so don't know the situation. But I will see if I can get some information.

  9. Thanks for responding. I tried your suggestion of embedding from youtube, but I can't figure out how to do it. I was able to copy the script for embedding, and that was as far as I got. Where do I paste it? I just want my parents to see videos of grandkids. This is getting to be a huge headache! I feel that this could be solved if I could turn off autosave! Then I could just upload the short home videos on my computer!!

  10. Hi TheDevineMsL,

I checked my post Embed Youtube video into blog post and see it is possible to implement it with the instructions provided, but if you do find something difficult (eg how to keep aspect ratio constant if you have to resize video to fit main column width, etc.) you will have to specifically point them out as otherwise I do not know how to help you.
