Error codes: What to do?

See List of bX- error codes

This is a common request for help: "I did..... and then got this message "error code bX-t8j6yl ......". I had made a feeble attempt to compile these error codes to try to make sense of them but have given up. What I normally do now is as follows:

I ignore error messages, try again AND often succeed on the second attempt. If not, then the third or the fourth or .....

Other thing you can try - use a different browser. This is not a "cure all", but what I consider as a "cure many". I have come up with all kinds of problems like unable to upload photos, a website took forever to download, cannot log into Blogger, online banking, all kinds of problems. When I get faced with such problems, I almost automatically use a different browser and in many cases managed to get done in another web browser. The web browsers I like the best are those web browsers with tabbed browsing.

Using a different browser may or may not help depending on the cause, but that has helped me through many, many different difficulties. Once you have the browsers in your computer it is very easy to do. See What to do when you cannot upload photos, sign into Blogger, etc.

I am so enthusiastic of this, I have 4 browsers in my computer - Internet Explorer, FireFox with Google toolbar, Opera and Flock. I used to have Netscape, but didn't download and install it after I got a new core-2 processor computer.

If you want to know more about why I am so enthusiastic about having many browsers, surf over to Why you should be using more than one browser (click BACK button to get back to this page) and get convinced. NOTE: THIS MAY OR MAY NOT HELP DEPENDING ON WHAT IS CAUSING THE PROBLEM, BUT HAS HELPED ME MANY TIMES

My favorite browser is FireFox. In this post, FireFox with Google toolbar, you wil see a screenshot of a section of the Blogger Help page where Blogger recommend FireFox. I recommend FireFox with Google toolbar for I find both very useful. You can download and install it via the "Make your PC more useful. Get the free Google Pack" text referral link in the left sidebar. Google Pack includes FireFox with Google toolbar plus other useful stuff which you can choose to install or exclude.

I previously uses the Google toolbar built-in spell check tool to check spelling (click BACK button to get back to this page) of my posts before I publish them. I find it much much better than the spell check tool in the Blogger post editor toolbar. That was FireFox 1.5. Now it is impossible to get FireFox 1.5. It has been upgraded to FireFox 2.0 and the FireFox Google toolbar no longer works with the Blogger post editor.

Regarding the FireFox with Google toolbar, there may be some privacy issue if you choose to add the Google toolbar with PageRank checker that you can install via the "FireFox with Google toolbar" button or via the "Google Pack" referral link which includes FireFox, or the "Browse the web better. Get FireFox with Google toolbar" text referral link, but that is not an issue for me as I don't think I have anything to hide. In any case, if you are worried about privacy, you can choose not to add the PageRank checker. Then there will be no privacy issues.

Others have recommended clearing cache and cookies, Me, I prefer to do that when I chose and not when I am forced to, to leave that as a last resort because clearing cache and cookies means you have to start a lot of thing from scratch and some pages may take longer to load. Once you have extra browsers installed, it is a very simple matter to use a different browser.

You can also try contacting Blogger support (not easy but not impossible). Refer to Problems signing into Blogger (Dashboard), etc (click BACK button to get back to this page) or contact Blogger Support (click BACK button to get back to this page).

UPDATE: Just had some problem uploading photo using Flock browser. Repeated attempts resulted in error code bX-i54acw. What I did - changed to FireFox. Problem solved. Photo uploaded with just one attempt.

  1. Hi Peter,

Great post, unfortunately using different browsers (Firefox, Explorer & Opera) did not resolve the problem so I am still getting an error message when I click on the link that Blogger supplied to me. I have contacted Blogger Support but have not yet received a reply and Found in Pockets is still bearing this message when I go to my dashboard: This blog is under review due to possible Blogger Terms of Service violations.

I have also posted to the Blogger Support Forum however I think I need to do so again with a new thread and make the new post succinct.

    Thanks for your help.
    SJ xx

  2. Hi there,

I am starting my new blog called blogger Interviews( and I would like to interview you for two things , one that you are a famous blogger and achieved quite a degree of success and also that I am only targeting A-list bloggers, I am trying hard not to dilute the brand equity of the Blogger Interview blogspot.

I will send you my questions which I will publish once you answer them. I will let you know when I will publish your post and also you may mention that in your post if you wish to (entirely upto you) and you can put some excerpt of the interview and not the whole(well if you put the whole interview it will be professional blasphemy) .

Believe me this is no scam and also I am not proposing it to be for everyone and it will be for only top notch bloggers .

By the way my introduction is that I am Amit Kheterpal, working in a finance company as a technical project manager and also now a convert to blogging . My initial effort is not a worth see but I did put a few websites together just to learn the basics.
    here is my main blog..

    Thanks and a Merry Christmas

  4. Peter,
Thank you so much for all of the advice you give people (like me) who know nothing about HTML. I am having problems adjusting the width of some things in my template. I read the how-to-change-width-of-content-and post, but my template is different. Where I should be able to adjust widths and such I have this:

    /* IE5 hack */
    #main {}

    everything after that seems normal.

    This is my blog:

It is exactly how I want it except I want the posts to be the same width as the photo in the header, without all that gray space between the posts and the sidebar. Can you help me?

  5. Hi Tanya,

I am not too clear about the spaces you mentioned, but I checked your blog and your blog Header graphic has the same width as your main column (posts). What I see perhaps is a Youtube video "Do they know it's Christmas?" which has width narrower than the main column (posts). Please refer to Embed Youtube video and adjust width (and height.

  6. Hi Amit,

Thanks for the compliments and the offer for an interview. I will be glad to do it plus make a post with a link back to yours when it is published. Sorry for responding so late as I just had too much things to do.

BTW, in my responses, there will likely to be many links to my various blogs as I would like to perhaps introduce myself, describe how I started blogging plus how I got to where I am now, and that would be best done by posting links. I hope these links will be made active.

In return, I will make a post with a link to your website in my blog with PageRank of 4 and above.

  7. I had hoped to find a reason my readers are getting blogger error code bX-uxu3fu and unable to access my blog. I tried looking up error messages and they dont even seem to address it. Any ideas of where to look for this problem? Thanks for you post!

  8. Hi Nancy,

I have tried in the beginning to compile error codes but have given up. This is what I resort to when I get error codes:

    Error codes: What to do?.

In 90% or more, I succeed, but please note it is not a cure all.

  9. Hi Nancy,

Sorry, just noticed I posted a link back to this post. Did this post not helped? As I said, it is not a cure all but had been effective for me often enough for me to use it each time I get an error code. Now what is your problem. You need to describe it in more details, otherwise no one can help. But on checking your message again, maybe you already have. I will see if I can get some possible answers from those who are following error codes.

  10. I was also having problems with the dreaded "error code" thing! Fortunately I was able to solve it.

If you can't seem to get out of the error screen just ask the blogger technical help staff for the code to get out of the error screen.

I have managed so far to get out of the error screen and back to editing my blog three times!

  11. Hi Peter:
when I open my blog I get this message Done, but with errors on page, the error says Line: 385, Char 15, Error: invalid Character, Code: 0, do you know how I can fix this or what it is that is wrong. Thanks.

  12. bX-uadwlr i got this error what dooes this error means and how to solve plz help me out
