Additional "Add Page Element (gadget)" for LAYOUT

IMPORTANT NOTE: Page Element is now referred to as GADGET. This ADD A PAGE ELEMENT is now ADD A GADGET

Below is the LAYOUT of a standard Minima template:

Standard Blogger Minima 2 column template

Note that there are only 2 "Add a Page Element (gadget)" (one of them highlighted with red ellipse). Below is an extract of relevant section of the template:

<div id='header-wrapper'>
<b:section class='header' id='header' maxwidgets='1' showaddelement='no'>
<b:widget id='Header1' locked='true' title='Temporary (Header)' type='Header'/>
</b:section>
</div>

<div id='content-wrapper'>

<div id='crosscol-wrapper' style='text-align:center'>
<b:section class='crosscol' id='crosscol' showaddelement='no'>
</div>

<div id='main-wrapper'>
<b:section class='main' id='main' showaddelement='no'>
<b:widget id='Blog1' locked='true' title='Blog Posts' type='Blog'/>
</b:section>
</div>

Now if you want to have additional [Add a Page Element]'s, change
showaddelement='no'
to
showaddelement='yes'

and where appropriate, change '1' in
maxwidgets='1'
to any number greater than '1'. If you just delete '1' and leave it as
maxwidgets=''
you can add an infinite number of Page Elements.

The edited script shown is in the scroll box below:

<div id='header-wrapper'>
<b:section class='header' id='header' maxwidgets='' showaddelement='yes'>
<b:widget id='Header1' locked='true' title='Temporary (Header)' type='Header'/>
</b:section>
</div>

<div id='content-wrapper'>

<div id='crosscol-wrapper' style='text-align:center'>
<b:section class='crosscol' id='crosscol' showaddelement='yes'/>
</div>

<div id='main-wrapper'>
<b:section class='main' id='main' showaddelement='yes'>
<b:widget id='Blog1' locked='true' title='Blog Posts' type='Blog'/>
</b:section>
</div>

Note that all three showaddelement='no' had been changed to showaddelement='yes', and in the LAYOUT, you will see three additional "Add a Page Element":

  1. Interesting. But could you just click the one "add page element" three times to add three widgets?

  2. Man, i need the "pagination" (no more "old post" i want: "1 2 3 ...last"), yes it is the big problem... can you help me?

  3. "But could you just click the one "add page element" three times to add three widgets?"

    You will just be adding widgets to a particular section, not additional "Add a Page Element" links.

  4. For ioh,

    If you are referring to an ordered list, refer to HTML for ordered list

  7. AWESOME trick Peter...thanks for sharing...now I need to get it in a special format like to have them in a secuence...sort of like this

    TITLE
    ELEMENT 1 ELEMENT 2 ELEMENT 3

    instead of

    TITLE
    ELEMENT 1
    ELEMENT 2
    ELEMENT 3

    make sense?...

  8. Hello Chen, is there a way where we can have more than one label element with different categories listed in them?

    Thank you.

  9. Hi Dharmist,

    If you simply add 2 Label list Page Elements from LAYOUT, you will get 2 automatic identical list. If you want something different, it will have to be done manually.

  10. Hi, sorry if this isn't the right place, but I noticed that you give answers which is more than I can say for a lot of places online that are supposed to 'help'. With regard to getting rid of the quick edit icons (those little blue tools) on the page, I have tried everything that you suggest and I can STILL see the icons in my right hand side page elements, both logged in and out! Is there anything else you can suggest? I don't know why they're still there as I have removed the piece of HTML script as per your instructions!

    Thanks so much in advance for any help you can give.

  11. Hi Miss Victory,

    after you log out, try adding a ? at the end of the URL and press ENTER key as you may be seeing cached copy of outdated page

    ReplyDelete
  12. I did that and it worked - no quick edit icons! So, by doing that have I refreshed the page for good so they won't show anymore?

    Thanks

  13. Hi Miss Victory,

    The quick editing icons will be visible to only you when you are logged in.

  14. HI peter,

    I see some blogs that contain both adsense and adbrite at the same page/blog. Is that okay?
    Also, some blog also put "Your ads here", may be to attract sponsors and they pay them. Is this ok?

    Thanks...

  31. Hi again Peter.

    I just introduced adbrite to my site to compliment google adsense

    http://buyingairyeezys.blogspot.com/

    I'm using a three column template. But some of the ads like the adbrite rectangle (second gadget from the top left) doesn't display well because I think the adbrite box is a bit bigger than the space in the colum.

    How do i increase the space in the column so the ads can show clearly

    if i were to open each post, do the sidebar still on the bottom or on the upper side (to where it supposed to be)
    u see, when i open each post, the sidebar is on the right place, means on the upper right
    but when i open the whole blog itself, the sidebar is still at the bottom
    so how

  40. I'm trying to add Yahoo Messenger Pingbox to my blog, but I can't embed the code in the "Add a Gadget" popup box.

    These are the instructions for Blogger:

    1. Copy the code to clipboard.
    2. Sign into Blogger.
    3. Click the "Layout" link in the Dashboard box.
    4. Click on "Add a Page Element" in the blog layout area.
    5. In the pop-up window, click on "ADD TO BLOG" under HTML/JavaScript. This doesn't show up!
    6. Type in desired "Title" such as "Chat with Me!" or "My Pingbox".
    7. Paste the Pingbox code into the "Content" area (Ctrl+V).
    8. Click "SAVE CHANGES" to close the pop-up window.

    Can the code be embedded into the HTML text?

    ReplyDelete
  41. A text gadget with HTML editing ability? Hey, I have never tried that. Now I have some spare time, I think I will do a test and see if HTML/Javascript (come to think of it, perhaps HTML but I doubt Javascript will fit into a text gadget.

    ReplyDelete
  42. OK test done. You can paste HTML codes into a text gadget (with HTML editing ability) but it wouldn't work. I tested it with a HTML only Statcounter codes and while it saved OK, the counter never show, it only display the codes.

    Nope, you can't use a text gadget in place of a HTML/Javascript gadget.

    ReplyDelete
  43. For Icersman,

    If your problem is not being able to get a HTML/Javascript gadget to pop up, usually when I get problems like these, I will try using a different browser. Others may recommend clearing cache and cookies, but I think my solution is neater.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Thanks for the quick response Peter, but I get the same thing using IE as I do with Firefox.

    Is it possible the template I'm using doesn't allow for HTML/Flash in the gadgets?

  45. If you want Flash, you will have to upload that to a Pro Photobucket account first I think.

    I need your help:
    I was able to put a my desired background image in my blogger account, but what it did is, that it is in TILED pattern, meaning the longer my threads are, the numerous that you will see the pictures repeat itself, i want it to be fixed, at the background, and whether I scroll down the whole page or not, the image will stay. please please help...

    also, the same question posted, I cant seem to add my Yahoo Pingbox to my blogger account so that anybody who views my blog can directly send me a message. can you help me on this?

    Hope to hear from you...

    Michael

  50. Add these to the CSS:

    background-attachment:fixed;
    background-repeat:no-repeat;

    As a test I generated the Yahoo Pingbox and added it to a HTML/Javascript gadget at Testing Blogger in Draft (at the bottom of the last right sidebar). I don't see any problem.

  51. Peter,

    Thanks for the immediate reply. the background was great! can I ask another? how can i make the blog's windows somewhat transparent so that I will be able to SEE THROUGH it and enable me to see the rest of the (covered) image?

    Still with the yahoo pingbox...can you give me the step by step procedure on how to add it? i know its too much, but i am thankful for your reply.

    thanks

    ReplyDelete
  52. "Still with the yahoo pingbox...can you give me the step by step "

    Just generate the code and paste it into a HTML/Javascript gadger

    ReplyDelete
  53. "make the blog's windows somewhat transparent "

    opacity:0.4;filter:alpha(opacity=40)

    with transparency (Firefox) ranging from 0.0 to 1.0, lower value more transparent

    (Internet Explorer) transparency 0 to 100, lower value more transparent

    ReplyDelete
  54. Hi Peter,

    How can I generate the code?
    How can I paste it into a javascript/html gadget?
