Peter Chen Enviroman at Twitter

After neglecting Twitter for a long time, I finally decided to give it a little extra attention by letting my readers and visitors know my user name for Twitter is enviroman, same as my user name at Google Blogger's official Google group - BLOGGER HELP GROUP. I am going to test Twitter to see if it can help increase traffic to my blog or blogs.

If you too want to try to use Twitter as an application to increase traffic to your blog, better join Twitter very quickly because if you are late, you may not get the user name you want because someone else have taken it.

Why is Twitter's user name important? This is because the user name you select will become the URL of your Twitter home page, like mine is http://twitter.com/enviroman. So in order for people to find you easily on Twitter or for members and potential members to recognize you, you will need a user name that is associated with your blog.

Now why do I say you have to be very quick? This is because Twitter limits the number of character to maximum 15 alphanumeric characters and do not allow . or - or _ Now that means if Twitter don't increase that maximum later, the maximum usernames will be 1515 = 4.37894+17 but if you exclude meaningless usernames like shgf4er9u90ue5ci and only include meaningfull ones like my name peterchen (I would not want peterchen6 or something similar), then you will have a very much limited choice.

Now what I would like to have will be something like - bloggertipsandtricks (too long) or my first Blogger related blog (less used because of trademark issues) - bloggerfordummies (too long) or peterchen (taken). Fortunately for me, my online name at BLOGGER HELP GROUP is enviroman and that is available and this 4th best will have to do.

  2. Peter, agree with you on the name thing. Twitter is hot right now. I signed up yesterday, managed to get my preferred name BloggerSentral same with my blogspot blog name.
But then again it's not hard at all to get the name from a "mispelled" version of the word central lol.

  3. How about giving a short tweet each time you publish a new post with a link (use tinyurl.com to shorten long URL). But for this to work, you will have to built followers perhaps by making a post like this to let people know you are on twitter or putting a link to your Twitter profile/homepage (not sure which one because I haven't really memorise what is available there.

  7. Thanks for the info on the Blogger forum about having my posts from Blogger automatically linked/uploaded to Twitter by creating the links on www.twitterfeed.com! Works great! Thanks for your help!

  9. How do you link Blogger and Twitter?

  10. Exactly what do you mean when you refer to linking Blogger and Twitter? Perhaps the widget that shows Twitter's update in the blog sidebar? If so, go to LAYOUT > Add a Gadget and search for Twitter update gadget which can be found in the featured gadgets.

  11. Peter, what happened to your twtiter?

  12. I think Twitter is doing the same thing as Blogger, using robotic programs to mark and disable people's account but getting false positives. I suspect it is because that each of my tweets have an URL so they took that as spam.

Have set up an alternative at @bloggerfordummi but have no done anything beyond that.

  13. Dear Peter,
Greetings. I've opened a new kitchen blog with the help of your valuable tips(a million thanks to you). However I came across a serious problem when one of my friend told me that he can't "post a comment". Later I confirmed that the feature "post a comment" is not working in my blog. Please help as I'm really worried because receiving comments is one of the key aspects. Here is the URL link of my blog - http://hamareerasoi.blogspot.com/.
    Kindly reply soon.

    Thank You
    Regards

  14. Looks like your friends are right. Perhaps you can return to Settings > Comments and reset. Looks like you are using Amanda's Rounders 3 template.

Let me check the demo blog which uses the same template - Environmentally friendly presents: result, no problem, can leave comment.

Perhaps you should think of backing up page elements (gadgets) and backing up template, then reload a fresh template.

  16. Hi Peter,

I've been trying to add the "retweet" button to my blogger blog posts. I've got the button and it will retweet the post, but I can't get it to show the Post Title. It just repeats my Blog Title after my Twitter user name. Are you familiar with Retweet? Any suggestions? Your help would be appreciated!

  17. Retweet? I am utterly annoyed with Twitter which have suspended my Twitter account @enviroman for no good reason and in no mood to deal with anything connected with Twitter.

  18. Oh. That happened to me and a lot of others one time. Turned out to be human error and was fixed within a few days.

    But, I understand your feelings!

Retweet is separate from Twitter. They provide a button that you can put on your posts so people can easily "retweet" it. It keeps a running count of how many times the post has been retweeted.

Here's a link (if you ever go back to Tweeting): http://www.retweet.com/

  19. Dear Peter,

Hi you really made my day by posting a comment on my blog :)...a million thanks for that. Regarding fixing the problem for posting comments, after asking you for help I searched in google for some help and came across this information on the url below:

    http://www.bloggerbuster.com/2008/06/how-to-add-comment-form-beneath-your.html

Thankfully it is working now, I think since I changed the template to a 3 column one (inspired by your advice) it somehow got disabled. You cant imagine how much your advise and tips have helped me develop my blog. Once again thanks for visiting my blog and yes I would be delighted if you try any dish from my blog.:) take care bye

  20. Hey Peter, your enviroman twitter account is back online!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Yes David, after of month long suspension which dampened my enthusiasm for Twitter. Now I have 2 Twitter account, @enviroman and @bloggerfordummi

    ReplyDelete
  22. That sucks. Twitter should have been more careful about closing people's accounts. Spam on twitter is a huge problem..They should hire someone to find a better way of taking care of it.

I think you should still use twitter and even if you don't post on twitter I think you should use twitterfeed to automatically update twitter when you make a new post.

  23. Yes thanks for the suggestion. I think I will do what you suggest later.
