Missing tool icons shorter toolbars - what to do

Update: This post was written for the old post editor and not for the updated post editor. You can toggle between the updated post editor and the old post editor by going to SETTINGS > BASIC and at the bottom (Global Settings), tick your preferred post editor. The new post editor especially in the edit HTML mode has very few icons. There are no filmstrip icon (video upload) in the new post editor

It has happened a few times in the past that bloggers complained that suddenly those icons in the Blogger post editor for specifying the color, font type and size have disappeared. Now if previously the toolbar in the post editor had looked like this (see screen shot):

Blogger tool bar for COMPOSE mode

but has changed to this (see screen shot):

Blogger tool bar for EDIT HTML mode

then the problem is easily solved. What has happened was that previously the post editor was in the compose WYSIWYG mode which has a longer toolbar with more tool icons but somehow the blogger probably got changed into the edit HTML mode which has a shorter toolbar with less icons. All you need to do is to change back to the Compose mode if those extra tool icons are important to you.

However, my advice to you if compose WYSIWYG mode is what you prefer is to switch over to the edit HTML mode as you can do more and have better control over your blog.

  4. Great blog you have here Peter. Do you have any solution to Blogger's image resizing problem? For quite awhile the function of resizing images I upload to a post when I choose Small, Medium or Large, I just get the actual image size so I have to manually go into the HTML and re-size each one. I tried contacting Blogger multiple times but they've never fixed it, at least it's still not working for me and I know a lot of other people were having the same issue. You know anything about this?

  5. What is this image resizing problem? Is it that you select LARGE size when uploading a small image and expecting the image to be resized to a larger than natural size?

  6. No my problem is I have really large images, so even when I select Large it scales it down to fit appropriately on my blog. Basically the image size feature when importing a picture isn't working at all no matter what I select it imports the image in it's full size, and performs no adjustments. I have to then go into the code and adjust the size manually to what the image size feature in Blogger should have changed it to.

  7. Looks like you know how to edit the HTML codes to make the uploaded image display bigger. So your grouse is, it is a lot of work?

Don't know how much of an alternative this is. You can upload your photo to the free Photobucket image host, get the image URL and use <img src="image URL" /> to display the image in full size.

  8. Hi,
Thanks for providing very useful and valuable info for new bloggers like me. I have a problem / doubt related to google groups and yahoo groups. I have created these to groups and subscribed to my blog college2job.blogspot.com. I found that group members are getting all the content of my posts. This may not help increasing traffic to my blog. Because group members are getting all the info in group itself and need not visit my blog. I want to send just 2-3 lines of the posts to group members and like to give link for the blog to get complete details of the post. Is it possible? Pls help me...
    Sorry for long mail..
    Thanks

  9. No my "grouse" is my images are too big, the Blogger feature was making them smaller for me. It's just inconvenient to have to edit the HTML every time I do a post, I'm just frustrated that Blogger screwed it up and hasn't bothered to fix it. I guess I'm just stuck doing it the old fashion way. Thanks anyways.

  19. Actually, for me the issue is that i THOUGHT there was a video upload in the new post editor since there was in the old one, and why would there be LESS in the new editor than the old one??

This made ME think i was missing an icon. When is that being taken care of?

  20. Blogger acts in mysterious ways. Perhaps is that suggestion page is still active you can add a request for the filmstrip icon to be included in the new post editor. As for me, I am very happy to continue working with the old post editor

  21. i just had such a hard time putting pictures in on the old one--the new one is great for that, much easier to work with. But it's silly they don't have a video one for it, yunno?
