Many of what used to be possible only possible via editing the template (example, 2007: Change comments to anything else desired now can be done via the DESIGN (previously called LAYOUT) and in the Blog posts section, clicking EDIT will take you to "Configure blog posts" options:

Now when you click Edit, you will be presented with a popup with options to change many of Blogger's default settings (see screen shot below):

The following are what you can change (options you can change plus Blogger defaults in brackets):
Main Page Options:
Number of posts on main page" [ 7 ] [ Posts ]
Post page link text (expandable post summary): [ Read more ]
Post Page Options (tick v to display and remove tick v to hide, text you can change in red):
[ v ] [ Tuesday, March 29, 2011 ]
[ v ] [ Posted by ] Peter @ Enviroman
[ v ] [ at ] [ 8.58am ]

[ ] [ Reactions: ] funny interesting cool {Edit}
[ ] Show Email Post Links

[ v ] Show Share Buttons

[ ] Show Ads Between Posts
Thank you Peter. I used to be able to find this "edit" easily and somehow I forget where it was along the way. I saw the "share" buttons on other people's blogs and have now added it to mine.
ReplyDeleteI know what everything does here except "links to this post." Do you know what it does? BTY, I use the LinkWithIn add-on that automatically shows four older posts.
Sam
Many thanks!
ReplyDeleteFYI, Reactions option does not work in old templates
ReplyDelete"Links to this post" list other blogs or websites which have active links pointing to that post to a particular post. Eg. If I had chosen that option and your blog has a link to this post, at the bottom of this post, that link from your blog will be shown.
ReplyDeleteLinkwithin if I remember correctly, will list automatically what they thinks are 4 other posts together with a graphic what Linkwithin thinks are relevant to a particular post.
Thanks for all the good info. You have saved my butt many times.
ReplyDeletethanks... nice info. :)

ReplyDeletePeter: I get the above, but when I try to arrange the order of the options (via the part at the bottom where you can move the options around like tiles to your order predrenence) the order actually never seems to change in blog. Mine come out sort of stacked in an unattractive way. My blog is http://www.radiationcinema.com/. Thanks for any help.

Why my Comment Hidden ???
ReplyDeleteComments as in Dashboard or comments as in post?
ReplyDeleteHi Peter,
ReplyDeleteGreat post. My dashboard doesn't show up the "Show Ads Between Posts" item. Do you have any idea why? How can I fix it?
Huh? Is your blog using a very old classic template?
ReplyDeleteI just changed to the new design template, the simple.
ReplyDeleteAre you already an AdSense publisher? However, I had an Adsense account for a long time and I myself don't know if not having an AdSense account will leave us without that option. However, what I know is, in other blogs using an email different from the one used for adsense not only have that option but also somehow have the correct publisher ID. Perhaps you should ask at the Blogger and AdSense Help Forums.
ReplyDeleteHi Peter,
ReplyDeleteYes, I'm and have been an Adsense publisher. Still running ads on my blog. I just want to install the inline ads between posts but the "Show Ads Between Posts" widget doesn't show up on my dashboard. Quite odd though. I guess it's probably because some codes are missing in my template.
With the clear instructions, I assume you are looking in the right place in EDIT POST.
ReplyDeleteClicked the "edit post" widget, so frustrated that the "Show Ads Between Posts" item is missing. Please take a look at the screenshot here. Then you'll know what I mean.
ReplyDeleteI don't know what is wrong. Try posting your problem in Blogger Help Forum and come back with the thread URL
ReplyDeleteJUNTE MAN

Google* is Google's social networking apps, Something like Facebook
ReplyDeleteThank you Peter for you really precious blog. It's possibile to add more options/field in the Post Page Options? Thanks
ReplyDeleteThat is controlled by Blogger and not us. You can try suggesting for it at Blogger Feature Suggestions & Feedback and hope for the best.
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot........
ReplyDeleteHi Peter,
ReplyDeleteI have been using blogger/blogspot for about four months, and had been very happy with my graphics. Last night I accidentally deleted my header, and when I went to re-enter it, it wouldn't let me change the blog title and description fonts or colors. I'm super bummed about this. The title that is there now isn't anything like the one I had, and I have searched everywhere trying to figure out what's going on with the template editor.
When I go into template editor, it reads as if it is putting the proper colors in where they are supposed to be, but it won't preview, and nothing changes on the text. I don't know much about HTML but I did look and see that the colors are the correct coded numbers in the HTML as well.
So frustrated. Any chance you know what's up.
Thank you for your time.
Tiffanie

How did you managed to delete your blog title? I tried that in my test blog and couldn't.
ReplyDeletehow to change the number of posts on main page by editing template???
ReplyDeleteWaiting for your answer..

http://spreadbytes.com
You don't change the number of posts on the main page by editing the template. YOu change it by signing into Dashboard > Settings > Formatting

Try adding a ? at the end of the URL to force a refresh. If it is a browser cache problem, it should work. Let us know if that helps.
ReplyDeleteit doesnt affect may blog when i change those options. Any idea why?
ReplyDeleteMaybe what you are seeing are old content from browser cache. Try adding a ? at the end of your blog URL to force a refresh.
ReplyDeleteI have the "Show Share Buttons" box selected and the "Show Ads Between Posts" selected. I've checked them several times and saved them several times...BUT they do not show up on my blog!
