How to edit or remove Blogger attribution

All new Blogger templates have an attribution at the bottom of the page like the one below:

Blogger Attribution

You can edit it by going to the bottom of LAYOUT and click EDIT on the ATTRIBUTION gadget:

editing Blogger Attribution

where I have added
to display the standard copyright symbol ©. This I have done for this blog as you can see at the footer of this blog.

Alternatively, you may want to completely remove it (and perhaps even add other gadgets in its place). In this case you will have to edit the template to unlock the Attribution gadget so that it may be removed.

Sign into Dashboard > Template > Edit HTML and using ctrl+F to find the word 'Attribution' and below that you will find this bit of code:

<b:widget id='Attribution1' locked='true' title='' type='Attribution'/>

Change locked='true' to locked='false' and the attribution will be removable.

The whole code is shown below:

<!-- outside of the include in order to lock Attribution widget -->
<b:section class='foot' id='footer-3' showaddelement='no'>
<b:widget id='Attribution1' locked='true' title='' type='Attribution'/>

but after editing it should read as follows:

<!-- outside of the include in order to lock Attribution widget -->
<b:section class='foot' id='footer-3' showaddelement='yes'>
<b:widget id='Attribution1' locked='false' title='' type='Attribution'/>

To remove it, just go to LAYOUT and look for the Attribution gadget at the bottom of the LAYOUT. Click EDIT, the REMOVE and the attribution will be gone.

Also, if you want to be able to

If you want something else there, you can also replace it with another gadget, eg a Text or HTML gadget and write whatever you want, the most likely replacement will be a HTML gadget with the copyright statement by typing the code Copyright
by Mr. X.

  1. One day Blogger may include this gadget in Dynamic Views. And they may even get rid of that crazy captcha.

  2. Hi peter, this is my first time to your blog and i love what i see. So i'll use this opportunity to commend you on your good work. This post has been really helpful to me cos its been a while i've wanted to do this on my blog(which is just 3 months old).
    Its my pleasure to be your 1800th follower....:).
    Good work once again and thanks.

    I agree with you Kansas.

  3. I've done that but it still appear whenever i refresh my blog.

  4. Ezza, I just tested following the instructions in this post on a blog using Blogger's Simple template and it worked exactly as intended. The only extra I did was to edit showaddelement="no" to showaddelement="yes" so I can add gadgets other than the Blogger Attribution gadget after its removal.

    I will now edit this post to add that extra step.

  8. Hi Peter, this was very helpful. This is what I get as a result and to check with you. How can I remove the "Watermark template" from the attribution?
    Copyright © Usha Nathan. All rights reserved. Watermark template. Powered by Blogger.

  9. Thanks,how to remove only text powered by blogger

  10. Basamo, I think what you want is to have a copyright notice but not to be followed by "powered by Blogger"

    The easiest way to do that is to first remove the attribution then add a HTML/Javascript gadget to create your copyright notice instead.
